About Tom

Tom was born and raised in Illinois. He grew up in the small farming community of Des Plains, about 45 miles north of Chicago. After attending high school at the Elgin Academy, Tom went to the University of Arizona, graduating with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration in 1984. At the U of A, Tom majored in Economics and Finance. While at the U of A, Tom studied independently and became close friends with William F. Buckley, Jr.. It was through his association with Mr. Buckley that Tom realized conservative principles, in thought and action, would prove timeless. It was also through Mr. Buckley that Tom became a student of Milton Friedman and his economic theories. Again, proving timeless. Tom lives these principles to this day.

After graduation from the U of A, Tom spent more than 10 years at Hughes Aircraft where he worked as an Economist and Strategic Financial Analyst. During this period, Tom gained important knowledge in the fields of national security, defense and intelligence, gaining Top Secret - Special Access security clearance.

In 1994, after 10 years with Hughes, Tom spent the next 5 years working with major investment firms as an Economist and senior level investment advisor. Tom gained invaluable insight into the workings of the major financial markets and the impact of government regulation on these markets. Armed with the knowledge gained over the last 15 years, he founded his company, Thomas Capital Management, L.L.C., in 1999. He has since learned what it means to do all the jobs and work very long hours to make a small business successful.

Tom has lived in Arizona over 30 years and in Sedona for the last 2 years. He is a true resident and citizen of the district. He started his family in Arizona with his wonderful wife Lori and their 3 children; two in college and a toddler.
